Our bees are British Hybrid Bees from Chesterfield and Quarndon.
The Queen is at the centre of each colony and the workers, nurse bees and drones look after the Queen to ensure she is healthy and lays well. During the summer our colonies expand to around 60,000 bees in each hive and it’s our role as beekeepers to ensure the health of our colonies before we take any of the beautiful honey they have produced.
We use British National Hives and frames with a bees wax foundation to give the bees a safe, warm and well ventilated home.
As responsible beekeepers we visit our colonies and check their progress by inspecting them for activity, strength, and production approximately every week depending on the weather and the stage of the season.
If you like to hear our gibberings while we inspect the girls we have put some inspection posts up with the
we record at the time. You’ll hear the girls buzzing the background and us trying to find each Queen in turn.
